Contemporary Music Program Returns to College of Santa Fe

Curriculum prepares students to become performers, composers, technologists or music educators.

Santa Fe, NM—July 7, 2010—The Contemporary Music program has returned to the College of Santa Fe, with classes starting August 30, 2010. Dr. Steven Paxton is returning as chair of the music department, which will offer a BA in Contemporary Music.

"Today's music, our contemporary music, comes from all over the world, uses all kinds of acoustic and electronic instruments, embraces multiple traditions, and exists simultaneously in hundreds of equally exciting styles and genres," said Paxton. "Students in the program gain skills and knowledge of the new emerging areas of music, while still being grounded in traditional music theory, history, and performance studies."

CSF offers students the opportunity to work with the latest in recording and composition technologies. CSF's classrooms, rehearsal spaces and performance areas feature world-class innovations.

Faculty members in the Contemporary Music Department are professional musicians. The program also features distinguished guest artists who regularly perform or conduct workshops, seminars and master classes.

"This vibrant music program provides students with access to exceptional professionals and industry-standard electronics, resources that increase the status of the College of Santa Fe as a leading institution of higher education in the arts," said President John S. Gordon.

Enrollment information is available at www.csf.edu/academics/contemporary_music. The department can be contacted at cmp@csf.edu or 1-505-473-6196.
