Literary Arts
From indigenous traditions to Hollywood screenplays, the Santa Fe literary world draws from broad inspiration and gives students the chance to lend their own words to public readings and performances.
Santa Fe attracts renowned writers such as Don DeLillo, Nicholson Baker, and Adrienne Rich, who recently visited the internationally known Lannan Foundation, and working Hollywood producers and writers at events like the annual Screenwriting Conference in Santa Fe.
At the Santa Fe Writers Conference, working writers from all fields, including digital and screenwriting, share advice with students. Year-round, the Southwest Literary Center offers readings, writers conferences, workshops, contests, and a Writers Room—a place to gather, relax and work on the latest great inspiration.
Bookstores with benefits abound in Santa Fe. At Collected Works, for instance, you can find readings, author conversations, book signings, and a community passionate about the written word. Or go to the Santa Fe Poetry Broadside online to share your work and see what other writers in New Mexico and nationwide are creating.
